Abstract

the semantic analysis of “Furqān” will be carried out in the context of the holy Quran’s ĀYĀT using semantic study based on the linguistic context and investigation of the paradigmatic and syntagmatic relationships; secondly, semantics will be applied for responding to the doubts regarding the conceptualization of the foresaid word in the Holy Quran as stated in the book “the roots of the holy Quran”. It can be stated based on the investigations that Furqān has been syntagmatically used with some other words like piety and guidance and it has been interchangeably used with such other words as scale, Quran and the book. It will be also stated in a final definition of Furqān that it is not of the lexical type and that it is by exercising the divine teachings that a light can be attained by means of which a person can distinguish the right from the wrong and easily leave behind the day’s calamities and conspiracies. Based on this conclusion, the claim by the author of the book “the roots of the holy Quran” that the term “Furqān” points to a book other than the current Quran is rejected.
